Loving and Loathing

Loving

Sanctuary 5 minute thermal mask
Oh how I love this stuff! It heats up as soon as you put it on and it leaves my skin feeling so smooth and soft. I try to use it twice a week, and there’s really no excuse not to as it’s so quick and easy. I’m quite lazy when it comes to skincare, I always remove my make up and moisturize but anything else seems too much effort. Except this, and it really clears my pores. A few people have commented that it smells quite earthy, but this really doesn’t bother me, and I much prefer a natural earthy scent than something over perfumed.

Nars Orgasm
I realise I’m the last person in the world to rave about this blush, so apologies. I held off buying it for so long because I’m a glitter-phobe, but when it popped up on Buya-Powa, I couldn’t resist, and I’m so pleased with it! When it’s on, the glitter is so subtle, and this is by far my favourite blush. So perfect for summer, you know, when it gets here.

Sister-time
In just 3 days time my big sister is coming back from Melbourne for a couple of weeks. I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to seeing her, she’s my best friend, and the only other person who knows all the words to every Michael Ball and Meatloaf album through no fault of their own. For this I can only blame my mother, but I won’t hold it against her.

Loathing

Wedding dress shopping.
This summer I have not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 7 weddings to go to. Okay, so some are evening dos but still, that’s a lot of dresses, and I’m struggling to find even 1. If you see anything that is Nicole Richie-esque and can be worn with a normal bra, please, I beg you, send me the link!

Ombre Hair
Oh, I know, it’s controversial! Now firstly, it’s not that I dislike this hair style, quite the opposite, I really like it, and I even considered it myself for a while, but for me, it’s become a case of overkill. I can’t seem to go anywhere without seeing it, and for every good ombre, there’s another dodgy orange dye dunk. Enough now. For me at least. Honestly Ciara, what is that?

Disco pants
More controversy! This might be because I’m too old, short, bitter and dumpy for them, but I hate disco pants. Like the ombre hair, they’ve become a bit unavoidable, and I just feel like they’re a camel toe waiting to happen? *Apologies for the attached image, if you’re a squeamish type, I suggest you look away.

DIY Caviar nails & glitter polishes

If you’re a beauty blog follower then you will have probably seen all the buzz about Ciaté Caviar Kits. But at £18 a pop (and pretty much sold out everywhere) i though I might have a go at putting together my own kit! Personally I wasn’t a fan of the fish egg nails until I saw the navy/black kit below. Now I need them!

In my hunt for DIY fish egg nails, I found this eBay seller that has a great range of tiny metallic beads.

To create your caviar manicure…

1. Apply two thick coats of your base colour, and whilst it’s still wet push the nail into a small pot of the beads.

2. When you remove your finger, lightly push the beads down to secure.

3. Seal with a coat of clear nail varnish. Easy!

Now for making your own glitter varnish…

The same eBay seller has some gorgeous glitters which you could easily use to make your own glitter top coat…

1. Buy a cheap clear nail varnish. (Boots Natural Collection and MUA at Superdrug are particularly bargainous!)

2. Create a cone funnel from a small strip of card, cut off the end, place on top of your nail varnish and slowly pour the glitter in.

3. If your clear varnish is really full, it might be worth removing a little before starting. And if your glitter isn’t going in too smoothly, just give the cone a gentle tap to help it along.

4. Shake to spread evenly, and you’re done.

Although, do be warned, this does work best with bright and pale glitters. I tried to create a black glitter varnish and it looked like grit… I now understand why no one on the high street had made one before!

If you do try any of these, please let me know how they go, I’d love to see them.

Bristol by Night

Firstly, I can’t take credit for these pictures, they were taken by Nath. (I’m sure I don’t have to explain this for longer term readers, but if you’re new to the blog, Nath is my boyfriend who gets referred to a fair bit on the old blog!) He’s much more patient with a camera than I am, I’m more of a point and shoot kind of girl. But I love these pictures, they were taken from our skylight, and although standing awkwardly on tip toes peering out of our roof isn’t the most comfortable viewing spot, I love the views from there, and watching the light change as dusk drops.
